“The Hobbit” was written by J.R R. Tolkien in 1937 and remains one of the best-selling books in history. The character of Gandalf, who appears also in “The Lord of the Rings” is a wise wizard and Member of the Istari Order. Sent by the West in the Third Age to combat the treat of Saurom, Gandalf joined Thorin to reclaim the Lonely Mountain of Smaug, convoked the Fellowship of the Ring and led the Free Peoples in the final campaign of the War of the Ring. Portrayed by Ian McKellen in the Warner Bros film, he is Leader of the Fellowship of the Ring, and best known for his long robes, grey or white hair, long beard and staff. Gandalf is a great option for Book week!
